How to use the map to plan a trip

The pins bunch up in a few areas, and those make the easiest trips, because you can see several markets from one base:

  • Munich and the Bavarian Alps. Munich has several markets within walking distance of each other, and the lakes and mountain towns are day trips. See our Munich Christmas markets 2026 guide and Christmas market day trips from Munich.
  • Franconia. Nuremberg, Bamberg, Rothenburg and Würzburg sit close together in northern Bavaria. Start with our Nuremberg Christmas market guide.
  • Cologne and the Rhine. Cologne has three markets on our map in its city center alone, and Aachen and Düsseldorf are nearby.
  • The Black Forest and the southwest. Freiburg, Gengenbach and the Ravenna Gorge are all in the Black Forest, and Stuttgart, Esslingen and Ludwigsburg sit close together further northeast.
  • Weekends only? Some of the prettiest small markets only run on a few days. Our weekend Christmas markets in Bavaria guide lists them.
